My family loves to go camping. Over the years, we have gone on many camping adventures. This year we did something a little different. We heard about the Summer Camp-In event at Great Wolf Lodge Pocono Mountains and decided to check it out. One thing about camping is that it is completely weather dependent. Inclement weather can definitely ruin your stay. One year when we were camping, it rained so much that we didn’t get to enjoy it as much as we usually would. The great thing about the Summer Camp-In at Great Wolf is the fact that it is weatherproof. Most activities are held indoors and the events that are scheduled outdoors can easily be moved indoors.
Great Wolf Lodge has been on my family’s bucket list for quite some time. I always thought it was just an indoor water park. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it is so much more than just a water park. There is so much to do there!
Upon arrival at Great Wolf, check-in was a breeze. They provide us with hands free waterproof RFID wristbands that served as our room key. wristband that you use as a key to enter your suite and it can be used to pay for items without having to bring cash by adding a certain limit per day.
Shortly after checking in we received a text from our “personal assistant” letting us know that we could just text back if we had questions, concerns or issues. I wound up texting them twice during my stay and they responded back quickly. You can also check out by texting your personal assistant.
The room we stayed in was spotless and had a good amount of space. We stayed in a Family Fireplace Suite. Our room featured two queen-size beds and sleeper sofa. It also featured a fireplace, patio. There was also a fridge and microwave in the room, which we thrilled about because we tend to travel with snacks and drinks whenever we take a road trip.
The Water Park at Great Wolf Lodge Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania
The main attraction at Great Wolf Lodge is the indoor water park.
They have a wave pool, lazy river, and two hot tubs, and a few water slides. The climate is very comfortable as the water park is kept warm at 84-degrees year-round. It’s not too humid nor too warm, and the water is just the right temperature. There is also an outdoor pool.
There were plenty of lifeguards on duty and they were attentive and professional. They also offer complimentary life jackets if you need one.
We had fun at the water park!
There is a lot to do at Great Wolf Lodge besides the water park. Upon check-in you’ll get a pamphlet that gives you a schedule of all the activities in the lobby and other areas of the lodge that day.
As part of the special Summer Camp-In programming, families can partake in activities like pool parties and s’mores by the fire pit. There are old school games, from bingo to building games, as well as face-painting and arts and crafts. The Summer Camp-In activities are included with summer bookings through Labor Day. Off-season activities include nightly story times, dance parties, and plenty of indoor activities. In addition, the resort offers fun activities for kids year round, including morning yoga, stories, games, crafts, and dance parties. Characters make appearances and take photos with anyone who wants to. They keep kids entertained throughout the day, especially before water park opens and after it closes.
Other Attractions at Great Wolf Lodge Pocono, Pennsylvania
Other indoor attractions include a fully loaded arcade, a small kid-friendly bowling alley with half-length lanes and five-pound balls, and a nine-hole, glow-in-the-dark miniature golf course featuring black light–illuminated nature scenes and forest creatures. Kids can also create their own Great Wolf Kids character at Build-A-Bear Workshop and sift through a sluice rock bag at Oliver’s Mining Co. to uncover gemstones and minerals. This comes with a card to identify the types of treasure found.
But wait, there’s more!
There is truly something for everyone here. There is an outdoor ropes course that will have you balancing on ropes, crossing bridges and climbing through obstacles: all from the safety of a climbing harness! There is also a live action adventure game called MagiQuest. The game is like a scavenger hunt. In order to become a true Magi, you have to complete a number of quests.
To get started, you’ll need to stop by the MagiQuest Marketplace to pick out a wand. Once you purchase your wand, you’ll also be given a booklet that describes all the quests you have to complete. This game appears to be a big hit. We saw people old and young walking around the premises in search of hidden runes to complete their quests.
It’s important to note that some of these attractions come at an additional cost. You can save money by purchasing a Paw Pass or Wolf Pass. We had a Wolf Pass which covered most of the activities.
My son was also able to get a pair of swim goggles, ice cream at Ben & Jerry’s, credits for the arcade, and candy at the candy store.
Food at Great Wolf Lodge Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania
There are many options for food at Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. They have six different dining options. There’s a Dunkin Donuts, and a buffet restaurant where you can enjoy a sit down meal on the main floor near the lobby. In addition, there is a Ben & Jerrys, a pizzeria, and a snack bar inside the water park as well as one near the outdoor pool. We didn’t have the chance to eat at the buffet restaurant, but we did grab a quick breakfast at the Dunkin Donuts, and had a few quick meals at the pizzeria. I loved the fact that I was able to find Coca-Cola beverages. Coke is my drink of choice and I really dislike it when I ask for a Coke at some restaurants and they ask me if another brand would be ok. I grabbed a few bottles of Coke to bring back to my room to enjoy later.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Great Wolf Lodge and encorage you to book a stay for your family. After a long busy winter and very rainy spring, we needed to just get away to reconnect and spend some quality time with each other. I truly believe that the family that plays together, stays together. These memories of playing together as a family are ones we will cherish for years to come!
