This post is brought to you by our sponsor, “Xfinity”. The opinions expressed below are my own.
Last week I attended a virtual meeting hosted by Xfinity. They shared a lot of helpful tips and tricks that I wanted to pass along to you!
5 Things I learned about Xfinity
They embrace diversity
This is an important topic for them. They recently launched a $100 million Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative where they are working hard to eradicate injustice and inequality by amplifying black stories, highlighting diverse cultures and shedding light on inequality. One way they are doing this is through their RISE initiative. RISE stands for “Representation, Investment, Strength and Empowerment.” Its purpose is to provide assistance to small businesses that have been negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in the form of marketing and technology support. They are working hard at bridging the digital divide.
They have partnered with the City of Philadelphia to launch “PHLConnectED,” a program to provide free internet access and devices, such as Chromebooks, tablets, or computers, to thousands of low-income K-12 public school students. This is so important right now with so many children attending school remotely due to the pandemic. They launched a new streaming service.
NBCUniversal recently launched the Peacock streaming service. The service offers a mix of live and on-demand programing and, of course, sports (depending on package). The base version of Peacock is 100% free, but you’ll have to watch ads. The free version of Peacock features more than 13,000 hours worth of movies and TV. Want twice as much content? Upgrade to a Peacock Premium plan, which offers a whopping 20,000 hours of content. Xfinity X1 and Flex customers get the Premium plan for free. They unleashed a new Wi-Fi extender.
With more and more of us are working from home these days, your home WiFi network is getting a workout. Xfinity’s wi-fi extender can help. Their second-generation wi-fi extender, called the xFi Pod promises more speed and wider Wi-Fi coverage for your home. This is a mesh Wi-Fi system, which uses signal amplifying/repeating pods placed around your home to bounce the signal to all corners. Just one xFi pod, can help customers improve their in-home Wi-Fi experience. It also includes ethernet ports, so you can plug your devices in directly if necessary. They dropped five great Wi-fi tips.
These five tips can help further boost your Wi-Fi at home.
1 – Make sure your router is placed in the center of your home.
2 – Make sure your router is in an open, unobstructed area.
3 – Be aware of activities that draw lots of bandwidth like Zoom calls. If several people are streaming video at the same time, you may experience issues like buffering or slow internet speeds.
4- Your device can make a difference. Older devices may not work as efficiently as newer devices.
5 – Use the xFi app to run tests on speed and coverage. The app allows you to see which devices are connected to your network, and how much they are being used.
This only scratches the surface of what was presented at the virtual meeting. To learn more about Xfinity and their offerings, please be sure to visit them here https://www.xfinity.com/
